Luxury in Spain

Sotogrande

Spain’s most private address: a gated estate of villas between the mountains and the sea, polo every summer, the great golf course of Valderrama and a marina.

Bienvenidos

A private estate by the sea

Sotogrande was created in the 1960s by Joseph McMicking and his family, who bought a great estate on the coast between Marbella and Gibraltar and laid out a private resort of villas, polo fields and golf courses. It has stayed private and green ever since.

Valderrama, among its courses, is one of the finest in Europe and hosted the Ryder Cup in 1997, the first held in continental Europe. Every summer, the Santa María Polo Club holds its international tournament, the high point of the season.

The estate runs from the hills down to a marina and long, quiet beaches. Gibraltar and its airport are 25 minutes away, Marbella about 40, and the white villages of Andalusia lie in the hills behind.
